Spring is right around the corner. At first it's nice to rest when Winter sets in. By the end, you're so ready to get out of the house. A time when the temperatures are still cool enough for an old fat guy to suit up, and take a look at the bees.
The first task was to treat the hives with Oxalic Acid It's early enough in the season that there should be minimal brood, so it's a good time to blast 'em. My neighbor also has bees, so we do much of the work together.
The great news is that every hive we looked at had survived the Winter. Considering all the bad news about huge losses, and the fact that it was the coldest Winter in years, we were stoked!
We couldn't find any obvious sources for pollen. Fortunately, our bees are better at finding what they need. Here's a video of my bees bringing back some pollen.
